4th Congressional District GOP Candidate Sean Bielat Votes in Norfolk

The GOP candidate for Congress voted at the Freeman-Kennedy School in Norfolk this morning along with his wife Hope.

For the first time in almost 30 years, the winner of tonight’s 4th Congressional Election will not be Barney Frank but rather a new member of Congress. With Frank retiring when his term ends in January, either Democrat Joe Kennedy or Republican Sean Bielat will succeed Frank as the district’s congressman. At a little after 10 a.m., Bielat, along with his wife, Hope, and two young children, Theo and Seraphina, stopped at the Freedman-Kennedy School in Norfolk to cast their ballots for the general election. For Bielat, this is his second attempt at running for Congress, losing to Frank in the 2010 election. “I think I made the right choices in the voting booth. Feel good about who we voted,” Bielat said about voting. The GOP candidate will …

Bielat, Kennedy Spar in Brief Television Debate

The 15-minute debate aired on Fox25 Morning News earlier today.

Although they had just a few minutes to make their case, Fourth Congressional District candidates Joe Kennedy III and Sean Bielat touted their experience and ideas in a Fox25 debate earlier this morning.  The live debate, which was moderated by Fox25 news host Gene Levanchy, lasted less than 15 minutes. This was the final scheduled television appearance for Bielat and Kennedy before the Nov. 6 general election.  Bielat, a Norfolk Republican, is running against Kennedy, a Brookline Democrat, to replace the retiring Fourth District Congressman Barney Frank, of Newton. Keeping with a theme that has run throughout the campaign, Bielat and Kennedy sparred on experience and whether Kennedy's name has carried him through the election.  "I think …

Joseph Kennedy Comes to Mansfield's COA

Joseph Kennedy III stops by Mansfield's Council on Aging for bingo.

Joseph Kennedy III stopped by Mansfield’s Council on Aging on Thursday to discuss the issues close to his campaign and the upcoming election in Massachusetts for Barney Frank’s Fourth District seat in Congress. “It’s a tough crowd, but it’s a good crowd,” he said. Mansfield resident Angela Roman asked Kennedy what he thought about how he would correctly represent average citizens in this day and age. She said it could become impossible to represent their interests when the gap between rich and poor is getting high enough that a campaign could conceivably be run on funds from super Pacs (political action committees) and not have to worry about funds from large groups of average citizens. “Just because someone gives you a campaign donation …

Attleboro's Heroux Quits Congressional Race for 4th District

Paul Heroux says he does not have the resources to compete in what he calls the "campaign-industrial complex."

The field of candidates to fill the Congressional seat for Massachusetts' 4th District has shrunk with the announcement early Thursday morning that Attleboro resident and Attleboro-Seekonk Patch blogger Paul Heroux has withdrawn from the race "I am not seeking the nomination at this time because with limited resources there is no longer enough time to put together the sort of professional organization necessary to successfully compete in what has become a 'campaign-industrial complex,'" Heroux wrote on his campaign site. The 35-year-old Democrat was considered a longshot in a race that includes fellow Democrats Joseph Kennedy III (grandson of deceased U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy), Jules Levine and Herb Robinson and Republicans …

Joe Kennedy III Comes to Mansfield [Video]

Joe Kennedy stops by in Mansfield.

Joseph Kennedy III is running for the Fourth District and stopped by in Mansfield on Saturday. Mansfield Democratic Town Committee 2nd Vice Chair Joseph Kaplan invited Kennedy to his residence in the apartment buildings at 150 Rumford Avenue. "I'm just honored and thrilled," Kaplan said. Kennedy took about a half hour to talk with everyone in the small but crowded room. Constituents and followers offered their support to the new candidate. “I think that the fourth district actually has a tremendous opportunity,” Kennedy said. “You’ve got companies [here] that are willing to make the investment in the area. I want to help build and generate [jobs] for the region. I think that’s one big area I’d like to try to administrate in the region.” …

Kennedy is Early Favorite in UMass-Herald Poll

Kennedy was favored two to one over Republican Sean Bielat in a UMass Lowell-Boston Herald Poll.

Although Joseph Kennedy III has not officially announced his candidacy, a UMass Lowell-Boston Herald Poll shows the young politician is an early favorite in the race for the Fourth Congressional District seat. According to a press release issued Thursday night, Kennedy leads two to one - 60 percent to 28 percent - over Republican Sean Bielat. As the poll points out, Kennedy's early lead could, in part, come from his name -- roughly three out of four voters in the district said they viewed the Kennedy family "favorably" overall. Twenty-eight percent of those who took the poll said they are more likely to vote for him because of his name.  Comparatively, 15 percent of those voters said the Kennedy name makes them less likely to vote for a …
