Mansfield High Wrestling Eyes Division Meet

Hornets will take nine wrestlers to Division 1 State Meet on Friday in Methuen.

The Mansfield High wrestling team will look to carry the momentum from several outstanding performances last week into the MIAA Division 1 State Individual Tournament this weekend in Methuen. Last week during the Division 1 South Sectional Individual Tournament in Weymouth, the Hornets placed 10 of their 14 wrestlers in the top six in their respective weight classes. Mansfield had a total of seven athletes place in the top four in their divisions, all seven earning trips to the Division 1 State Meet this weekend in the process. Two other Hornets will also make the trip to Methuen on Friday as alternates. Mansfield High Wrestling Edges King Philip

Hornets hold off Warriors with late surge during league dual meet Feb. 3.

It wasn’t easy, but the Mansfield High wrestling team completed a terrific Hockomock League dual-meet campaign with a very hard-fought 37-36 victory over King Philip in a Large School Division contest Thursday night in Wrentham. The victory improved the Hornets to 13-4 overall on the season, including an impressive 7-1 mark in the Hockomock League. Mansfield, which has now won six straight dual meets, also completed its division slate with a 3-1 mark, the only loss coming to division and league-meet champion Franklin. King Philip completed its dual-meet schedule with an 8-12 overall record. The Warriors also finished 3-5 in the league and 0-3 in the Large School Division. Mansfield High Wrestling Places Second At Hockomock League Meet

Hornets place 10 wrestlers in top four during competition Saturday. Team to face Wrentham tonight.

The Mansfield High wrestling team placed a total of 10 competitors in the top four of their respective divisions on the way to a second-place finish at the Hockomock League Championship Meet Saturday, Jan. 29 at North Attleboro High School. Franklin followed up its Large School Division dual-meet crown by finishing first at the league meet with a total of 182 points. Mansfield was second with 170 points, while the host Rocketeers were third with 158.5. King Philip placed fourth at the meet with 125.5 points and Small School Division dual-meet champion Foxboro was fifth with 120.5. Wrestling in dual meets is all about the match-ups. Coaches shift their lineup at times in order to give their team the best chance to win individual matches and ultimately the meet. Sometimes those adjustments work in your favor and sometimes they don’t. Unfortunately, the latter is what happened to the Mansfield High wrestling team during its showdown with Franklin for first place in the Hockomock League’s Large School Division at the James Albertini Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night. With their dual meet with the Panthers starting at the 130-pound weight class, the Hornets made alterations to their lineup to put them in the best position to beat the defending league champions. Mansfield High Wrestling To Hold Senior Night On Wednesday

Hornets to honor talented senior class prior to league showdown with Franklin.

The Mansfield High wrestling team will honor its outstanding senior class prior to its showdown with Franklin for first place in the Hockomock League’s Large School Division on Wednesday night. The Senior Night ceremony will be held between the junior varsity and varsity meets. The junior varsity meet is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. with the varsity contest starting at approximately 7 p.m. The talented senior class that will be honored on Wednesday night includes captains Henry Larose, Mike Trowbridge and Kyle McGuire as well as classmates Brett Reed, Ryan McCaffrey, Sean Hansen and Mike Collins. Mansfield will enter the showdown for division supremacy with a 6-1 overall record. The Hornets are also 4-0 in the league, including a 1-0 …
