The girls' team win their first league title since 2011 while the boys snap their 10 championship win streak.
In this case, it was the 11th time that was the charm. After winning the Hockomock League Track and Field Championship Meet for 10 years in a row, the Hornets boys' track team did not come home with a first place trophy, finishing in second place behind a strong North Attleboro team. With strong performances in the throws and jumps, the Red Rocketeers scored 150.5 points. Short by only 1.5 points, the Hornets placed second with 149 points and King Philip finished third with 77 points. They (North Attleboro) are a very good team so just to be with them in the running after field events where they scored 71 points," Mansfield boys' coach Julie Collins said. "I've been doing this for 12 years, I have never seen it come down to the final." …

With two on and two out in the bottom of the third inning, the Hornets took a 1-0 lead after Lauren Boen's two-out single brought Erin Glavin home and advanced Moriah Baker to third base. The Blue Bombardiers were able to stop a potential rally with a strike out by Taylor Ryan. Attleboro responded quickly in the top of the forth inning when Keely Viau got on second with a lead-off double to start the inning. A batter later, Hannah …

Mike Barressi led all scorers with six goals. Mike Donnelly had four goals and Conor Finerty had three goals.
Though a quarter and a half of play and tied 5-5, it appeared the Mansfield Hornets and King Philip Warriors were in for a shootout. The Hornets however, cracked down on defense and pulled away for a 15-8 win over the Warriors. The Hornets improve to .500 again with an overall record of 6-6 and 4-4 in league play. Two quick goals from Conor Finerty and Mike Barressi put the Hornets up 2-0 early in the first quarter but the Warriors would use possession to get the lead by the end of the quarter. Chris White started things for King Philip with a 10 yard shot followed by a wraparound wide angle goal by Jack Riley to tie the game 2-2 about halfway through the quarter. Trailing 3-2 going into the second quarter, Finerty and Barressi struck …

The Hornets won the girls’ meet 98-38 and the boys’ meet 90-46.
After losing to North Attleboro by only four points in the boys’ meet and winning by 10 in the girls’ meet last week, things were back to status quo against King Philip. Earning a pair of blowouts against the Warriors, the Hornets won the girls’ meet 98-38 and the boys’ meet 90-46. The boys’ improve to 3-1 and the girls remain undefeated at 4-0. Despite Val Madonna-Lendvai’s (4:32.7) best efforts in the mile, KP’s Owen Gonsar took the event, winning in 4:28.6. With 600 meters to go, Madonna-Lendvai took the lead and appeared to have control of the race until Gonsar was able to regain the lead and get separation with about 250 meters left in the race. Both Mike Donnelly and Mike Barressi led the Hornets with 3 goals and 1 assist.
With less than two minutes to play and up by two, things were not quite over for the Mansfield boys’ lacrosse team against Sharon. With the Hornets playing at least a man down for most of the final moments, the game had the makings of an Eagles comeback. Despite Sharon playing with a two-man advantage at times, the defense was able to hold on for a 9-7 league win. The victory gives Mansfield an overall record of 4-5 and a league record of 3-3. Although Mansfield spent most of the first quarter on the attack, it was Sharon that took a 1-0 lead off a Andrew Ventresco one timer from Andrew Titus with 2:18 left in the quarter. Mansfield would respond only 63 second later when Adam Blackman’s pass from behind the net to Kevin Flynn resulted in …

The Hornets beat the Red Rocketeers 14-7
Playing on the road since the beginning of April, it was a happy homecoming for the Mansfield boys' lacrosse team against North Attleboro. With a strong performance offensively, the Hornets beat their rival 14-7 to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in Hockomock League play. An outstanding effort on offense by attackers Mike Barressi and Mike Donnelly accounted for seven Mansfield goals and was too much for the North Attleboro defense. Early in the first, a ground ball recovered at midfield by Barressi led to a break away and a Donnelly goal to start the game. Up 2-0, the attackers struck again in similar fashion late in the first quarter to give Mansfield a 3-0 after a quarter of play. Despite a North Attleboro goal early in the second …

Adam Blake pitched a complete shutout in a 2-0 win against the Tigers.
After dealing with tightly contested losses all season, it was a relief for the Hornets to finally be on the winning end of a close game. Earning a couple of runs in the early innings, the Hornets beat the Taunton Tigers 2-0 at the East St. Baseball Complex. The Hornets first run came in the bottom of the second when Michael Boen’s single brought Adam Blake home from second base to give Mansfield an early 1-0 lead. Later in the third inning, a failed pick-off attempted at third base gave George Bezreh enough time to score and extend the lead to two runs. With two outs and a man on second base in the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers had the tying run at the plate, but a fly out to Bezreh ended the game and gave Mansfield the win. On …

Despite a three goal lead in the second half, the Warriors came back to beat the Hornets 11-10.
With a little under 10 minutes to play, the Hornets were in the driver's seat with a three goal lead over the King Philip Warriors during a game where both teams were fortunate to be ahead at all. As fast as Mansfield got the momentum, it quickly went back to the Warriors as KP ended the game on a 4 goal run to win 11-10 against their Hockomock League foe. Staring the game down 2-0, goals from Lauren Beecher (2 goals), Jessica Buckley (2 goals), and a pair from Meghan Delang (4 goals) helped the Hornets climb back to tie the game at 4-4 with 8:59 left in the first half. 30 seconds later, a goal from Beecher from about five yards away gave Mansfield their first lead at 5-4 but Jennifer Lacroix (2 goals) responded at 6:06 to tie the game …
