Best of Patch: Hungry Residents go with Mansfield Deli for Sandwiches

Mansfield Deli wins Patch's best sandwich in Mansfield.

There is plenty of competition, but when it comes to sandwiches, Mansfield resident think Mansfield Deli tops all. Mansfield Deli beat out six other restaurants, sub shops and cafes to win Patch's "Best Place to Order a Sandwich" this week. Mansfield Deli's owner Tom Reilly said that he is really excited to be named Patch's best of Mansfield. He said that he loves all the specialty sandwiches his deli makes, and it's hard for him to choose.  "I'm not a good person to ask," he said. " I'm a human garbage disposal, I really love food. I would have to say that right now though my favorite sandwich would be the Joe Pesci." The aptly named Joe Pesci has a lot of attitude and spice made up just to amuse. Mansfield Deli: An Accidental Icon

Owner Tom Reilly started the Mansfield Deli over 23 years ago.

When Tom Reilly first purchased the property on Pratt Street over two decades ago, he originally bought it as a real estate investment, and originally did not know what it was going to be, let alone the Mansfield Deli. There was already a beer and wine store in the building when he bought it, but Reilly knew that he'd have to offer something else if he was going to be successful. "It was an accident, really," he said. "There was a small little store there already, but with the big liquor store (Dub's) across the street, I knew that to get any growth [at the property] I'd have to do something different, so I decided to do sandwiches."
