Entrepreneurship students make donation to the Corey Shea Memorial Scholarship
Through a grant provided by the Mansfield Education Foundation, Mrs. Prester’s Entrepreneurship students were successful in operating a small business during the winter trimester. The students pitched their business ideas to classmates, and as a group decided to design and sell Mansfield wristbands. The students took control of the entire business cycle by designing products, planning the marketing strategy, selling the products, and analyzing the finances. The students also chose to make a charitable donation to the Corey Shea Memorial Scholarship out of their profits. The following was submitted by Cara Martin of Bridgewater State University --- On Saturday, Dec. 1, a snowy day in Mansfield, MA set the stage for Mansfield Education Foundation’s (MEF) Annual Secret Shop. Secret Shop was originally started by The Mansfield Social Club in the 1960s. Since 2010, MEF has successfully continued the tradition of gathering student elves and parent volunteers to transform the Jordan Jackson Elementary School cafeteria into a holiday mini mall. “There are tables of gifts for everyone on their lists, Mom, Dad, Grandparents, friends and pets. Children, kindergarten to fifth grade love to do their holiday shopping with us at Secret Shop,” said Marybeth Cragan, MEF President. Tables full of donated merchandise …

Entrepreneurship students make donation to the Mansfield Animal Shelter
Through a grant provided by the Mansfield Education Foundation, Mrs. Prester’s Entrepreneurship students were successful in operating a small businesses during the fall trimester. The students designed and sold custom Mansfield sunglasses. They generated nearly $700 in sales and made a $100 donation to the Mansfield Animal Shelter. The remaining profits will be used to fund future Entrepreneurship projects in upcoming trimesters. The $100 donation was presented by the entire class, as pictured.

The Mansfield Education Foundation is pleased to announce The Secret Shop will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Jordan Jackson Elementary School. This wonderful annual event provides children, in grades Kindergarten through Fifth, an opportunity to purchase reasonably priced ($1-$5) holiday gifts for family and friends in a safe environment. Volunteer “Elves” (middle school students) assist children while they select gifts for their family and friends for the holidays. This event benefits all school-aged children in Mansfield. All proceeds from The Secret Shop will be returned to the schools through grants made to educators. All donors will be acknowledged at the event…

After reviewing numerous applications from teachers and other educators throughout Mansfield, MEF has chosen five recipients to receive grant money this year. The MEF Grant Review Committee conducted a very rigorous evaluation process in May and June, notified the lucky teachers at the end of the school year and presented them with their official grant letter this past week. The Mansfield Education Foundation (MEF) Teacher Recognition Program raised more than $1000 since the announcement of an annual partnership with local entertainment venue, Comcast Center this past January. Ending in June, the Comcast Center donated matching funds up to $500 in total for all Teacher Recognition donations made to MEF. This money is used to help provide even more financial assistance to Mansfield teachers. MEF’s “Teacher Recognition Program” offers parents and the community a unique way to honor and thank our educators for his or her service and dedication. The Mansfield High School Entrepreneurship class gave the Mansfield Education Foundation (MEF) $750 back, which was the amount awarded to them last September by the Foundation. The class used the funds as seed money to establish their own businesses. When asked why they decided to donate the money back to MEF, Business and Technology teacher Jacqueline Prester said, “My vision was to have the students learn first-hand about running a business and a big part of that is being philanthropic and giving back to the local community”. The Mansfield Education Foundation (MEF) is excited to announce a raffle for Big Time Rush tickets. The sold-out concert will be held at the Comcast Center in Mansfield on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 7:00pm. A very special thanks to Bruce Montgomery of the Comcast Center for donating the tickets to MEF. In addition to four (4) tickets to the show, the raffle will also include other goodies to surprise the winner.
