Mansfield Firefighter Assault Case Sees Change of Venue

A case involving a Mansfield firefighter has been moved from Attleboro to Taunton.

To avoid a possible conflict of interest, a judge ruled Wednesday to transfer a case involving a Mansfield firefighter from Attleboro to Taunton District Court according to the Sun Chronicle. The change of venue was requested to avoid assistant district attorneys who work with the Mansfield PD. Ryan R. Palmeiri, 36, of Mansfield, is on trial after being arrested last Thursday after his wife obtained a restraining order after alleging she was pushed and threatened. Palmeiri is currently being held in jail without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for March 4. Recently, he pleaded innocent to assault-related charges, witness intimidation, and kidnapping. Mansfield FD has put Palmeiri on administrative leave pending the result of…

Mansfield Fire and EMS Log: Tractor Trailer Crashes into Snow and Cars in Flames

The following is from the Mansfield Fire and EMS log.

February 5 8:59 p.m. - Mansfield Fire assisted Foxborough Fire with a motor vehicle accident located before Exit 8 on Route 95 North. Three men were injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.   February 6 8:35 a.m. - Mansfield fire responded to a two vehicle accident at Samoset Ave. and Rock St. While there were possibly personal injuries, the parties involved in the accident refused a medical transport. February 8 8:25 p.m. - Caller reports a snow plow truck on West St. is fully engulfed in fire. Engine 4 was dispatched to extinguish the fire. February 9 9:13 a.m. - Mansfield fire was informed of a vehicle fully engulfed in fire on Gilbert St. The fire was knocked down by 9:35 a.m. February 10 7:17 p.m. - A tractor trailer crashed …

Mansfield Fire Extinguish Small Fire at Wendy's

The Mansfield FD took out a fire in a light fixture near the roof of the Wendy's on Copeland Drive.

Monday night, Mansfield Fire extinguished a small fire in a light fixture near the roof of the Wendy's on Copeland Drive. A little after 7:00 p.m., the department was notified that there was smoke coming from the top of the building and had the majority of the fire extinguished at about 7:20 p.m. While there was little damage to the building, it is unknown if Wendy's will be able to open for business Tuesday morning. According to the Mansfield Fire Department, there were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

EMS Log: Accident on 495, Car Takes Down Pole, and More

In this week's EMS Log, the Mansfield FD responded to a four car accident on Route 495 and a pair of poles were hit in one car accidents.

January 7 8:14 a.m. - Mansfield Fire and Massachusetts State Police responded to a four car accident on Route 495 North. Two involved in the accident were transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.   2:45 p.m. - Mansfield Fire and Police responded to a report of a truck striking a pole on Fruit Street. Both the driver and the passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries and were transferred to Norwood Hospital.   January 8 4:19 p.m. - Mansfield Fire responded to a gas grill fire on the rear deck of a home on Concetta Drive. The fire was put out and the gas was secured to the grill. Home owner was advised by Mansfield FD.   January 10 7:44 p.m. - Caller reported smoke detector going off despite a lack of smoke and fire. …

Mansfield Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Team up for Joint Exercise

The Mansfield Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police recently participated in a joint exercise at a residential structure scheduled for demolition

There’s a reason why the Red Sox and Patriots play pre-season games.  Hitting in a batting cage or practicing field goals does not provide the same learning experience as performing these same tasks when it counts.  Sports are one thing, but how do Emergency Services professionals prepare themselves?  Where do they play their pre-season games? The week of January 7 provided a unique opportunity for the Mansfield Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams to sharpen their skills during a joint exercise at a residential structure scheduled for demolition.  The fire department first received consent for the drill from Mansfield …

Mansfield Fire and EMS Log: Rollover, Pole Strike and Collisions

The following is from the Mansfield Fire Department log from Dec. 30, 2012 to Jan. 6, 2013.

Dec. 30 9:46 a.m. Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a call reporting a single-vehicle collision against a utility pole on Fruit Street. One patient was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. 3:12 p.m. Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a call reporting a tree down on a wire on Lawndale Road. No injuries were reported and Mansfield Electric shut down power at the location and mitigated the issue. Jan. 1 2:46 a.m. Caller reported a rollover on Route 95 North. One patient was ambulatory and transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Jan. 3 2:24 p.m. Caller reported a motor vehicle collision on Route 140 South. One patient was transported to Norwood Hospital. Mansfield Fire Log and EMS Log: Pedestrian Hit, Five Car Collision and Snow Plow Strike

The following is from the Mansfield Fire and EMS log from Dec. 24 to Dec. 31, 2012.

Dec. 27 8:56 a.m. Mansfield EMS responded to a call reporting a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The patient was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Dec. 28 7:57 a.m. Mansfield EMS responded to a call reporting a fall victim with a head larceration. 12:58 p.m. Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a fire alarm on Chauncy Street. Burnt food on the stove was found to be the cause. Dec. 29 5:30 p.m. Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a call reporting a five-vehicle collision on Elm Street. Patients were treated on scene for minor injuries. Dec. 30 2:30 a.m. Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a call reporting that a snow plow had struck a gas line in the Foxborough Stop and Shop.

Snow Plow Strikes Foxborough Stop and Shop, Mansfield and Foxborough Engines Respond

Foxborough and Mansfield Engines respond.

A plow struck the Stop and Shop on Main Street in Foxborough according to the Mansfield Fire Department, at about 3 a.m. on Sunday. The crash resulted in a gas leak, according Mansfield Fire, and the Foxborough Fire company and the local gas company secured the leak with no resulting complications. Mansfield Firefighters ventilated the supermarket and the surrounding area. According to the Mansfield Fire Department, there was no other resulting damage and the leak was contained and mediated.

Mansfield Fire and EMS Log: Garage Fire, TT Crash and Collisions

The following is from the Mansfield Fire and EMS log from Dec. 17 to Dec. 23, 2012.

Nov. 17 4:05 p.m. A caller on Jacob Drive reported a fire and heavy smoke coming from the garage. Embers from the fireplace had gotten into the heating system. Power to the house was cut and a small extension was extinguished. 7:33 p.m. Callers reported a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of North Main Street and Chauncy Street. Two patients were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Dec. 18 10:22 a.m.  State police reported a tractor trailer had crashed a large amount of fuel had spilled on Route 495 North. 2:10 p.m.  Caller reported a vehicle in the woods at the onramp of Route 140 North from Route 495 South. Mansfield Teen Helps Limit Garage Fire

Small garage fire on Jacob Street kept small by Mansfield teenager.

Mansfield Fire and EMS responded to a call reporting a garage fire at 35 Jacob St. around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. They came to find the fire had been isolated by the son of the family living at the residence. Mansfield fire chief Neal Boldrighini said that the fire started in the central heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. "Lucky for us and lucky for them, the home owner's son was able to knock it down in the canister with a chemical fire extinguisher," he said. Boldrighini added that the damage was minimal. He said the apparent cause was embers getting into the system and catching trough a wind trap.
