Mansfield Comes Back in the Second Half to Beat Canton 34-14

Mansfield comes back in the second half to dominate Canton 34-14.

The Mansfield High football team came back in the second half to dominate the Canton Bulldogs, 34-14, on Friday in Canton. While Canton had the lead during the first half, Mansfield’s passing game and offensive line slowly wore out the Canton defense. Canton had a great opportunity in the first quarter with the first kickoff. Canton’s Elias Camacho made a stellar return to Mansfield’s 30-yard line in the first play of the game, and Canton moved up the field to Mansfield’s 1 yard line. The Bulldogs couldn’t get past Mansfield’s defense and had to turnover on downs. Canton kept up their offense push in the first half, relying on Camacho, Ian Glavin and Dexter Green for their amazing running game. Mansfield took the early lead with a 27-yard …

Mansfield's head coach Michael Redding celebrates his 200th win on Friday.

Mansfield varsity football head coach Michael Redding got his 200th win on Friday when Mansfield took Canton in the second half to win at 34-14. “It’s been a privilage to be a part of it,” he said. “It just reflects support from the community, great players and a lot of unknown guys who work for three years to play their senior year and they become good football players through that dedication.” Redding, who starting coaching Mansfield after coaching college football in 1988, now has 200 wins in his career for over 24 seasons. “First year in 88,’ I thought it was a one-year deal,” he said. “I enjoyed it, and every year it’s gotten better. The community is so supportive. The players commit so much that it’s like a college-level commitment. …

Mansfield Football Wins in Overtime

Hornets defeat Barnstable Red Raiders 34-33

The Mansfield football team defeated the Barnstable Red Raiders on Friday 34-33 in overtime. Mansfield seemed to have the game in the back pocket for the first three quarters, keeping a healthy lead of 17-points over Barnstable for that time. Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said that he did not want to risk injuries in this game by keeping kids in too long and pushing too far. He said he wanted to keep the players fresh to keep injuries to a minimum for the upcoming Franklin and North Attleboro games. "And it backfired on us," he said. "But I'd do the same thing again; our emphasis is to win the league and get to the playoffs." Mansfield struck first during the game, getting a six-point touchdown from a two-yard run from Greg Donahue. …
