The Mansfield High boys' ice hockey team will see a familiar foe in the Division 2 South Tournament, drawing King Philip, Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Aleixo Rink in Taunton at 7:30 p.m. The winner will be playing the winner of the Sandwich-North Quincy game in the quarterfinals. Mansfield finished the season with a 12-5-3 record, earning the sixth seed, while King Philip is No. 11 at 9-8-3 record. See the complete pairing at www.miaa.net.

After the King Philip boys' ice hockey team played defense for the majority of the game, it was only a matter of time before the Mansfield Hornets erupted. Despite holding the Hornets to only a goal in the first quarter, King Philip fell to Mansfield 5-0 in a Hockomock League match-up. It only took the Hornets 93 seconds to get on the board as a shot from the top of the right face-off circle by Billy Grant deflected off the glove of KP goalie Matt Carr and into the goal to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. The Warriors’ best chance to tie the game came a little more than nine minutes into the game when Chris Rando’s shot from the left went wide right. Mansfield High boys' varsity ice hockey team beat Nauset, 3-1 Wednesday. Nauset started early, making Mansfield take the defensive during the first period. “I thought our defensemen played really well,” Mansfield head coach Rick Anastos said. During that time, Mansfield only took shots on the goal when they had a power play, but with Nauset’s aggressive strategy and three penalties, the Hornets had four and a half minutes to get their shots to the net. “We have enough skill that we won the game,” Anastos said.
