After hearing appeals from high schools about where their football teams are slotted in the new football playoffs, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association football committee gave seven appeals out 10 that was requested, according to a report in the Boston Herald. The Mansfield High football team held its annual recognition banquet, Dec. 9. The Hornets won the Hockomock League's Kelley-Rex Division, beating Duxbury in the Division 2 playoffs before losing to Reading in the Super Bowl. The Mansfield High football team will be operating under a different playoff system in 2013.
Every year, once the Mansfield High football team ends, webmaster Dave Redding posts next year's schedule right way with any available open dates. Right now, only the games against the other teams in the Hockomock League Kelley-Rex Division and Davenport Division member Foxborough are on the schedule. Opponents in November, besides Thankisgiving Day against Foxborough, will be determined by whether Hornets make the playoffs or don't under the new state football format. This time, there was no dramatic comeback as the Reading High football team got revenge for their loss to Mansfield in the 2010 Division 2 Super Bowl with a 27-7 win in the Division 2 Super Bowl at Bentley University in Waltham Saturday afternoon. Mansfield scored the first time they touched the ball on a long pass from junior quarterback Kyle Wisnieski to sophomore wide-receiver Brendan Hill for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter at the 8:16 mark. When the Mansfield High football team faces Reading Saturday at Bentley University, the two squads will be very familar to each one. Two year ago, the Hornets and Rockets played one of the most memorable games in the history of the Super Bowls in Massachusetts. At Gillette Stadium in the 2010 Division 2 game, the Hornets staged one of the great comebacks in Mansfield and Super Bowl history. The Mansfield High football team is going Bowling again. After beating Duxbury, 23-19, Tuesday night at Bridgewater-Raynham High School in the Division 2 playoffs during a snowy showdown. "Our kids come back every week and keep working, win or lose," Mansfield head coach Michael Redding said. A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.
If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts.
