A lot can be said about the drastic change that overtook the Mansfield Football program in 1992. As this is Mansfield head coach Mike Redding’s 20th year as the head coach, a Super Bowl win on the anniversary of their first title would be quite an achievement. But what are some of the factors that help make that success possible as they move ahead to face Reading on Saturday? “The enrollment in the school has changed drastically,” said Redding’s father David Redding. “The enrollment has doubled since Mike took over. Mansfield defeats the Taunton Tigers, setting the stage for Friday night's home showdown with Franklin in the Kelley-Rex Division.
The Mansfield High football team thoroughly dominated Taunton, 35-14, on Friday. Mansfield’s passing game was key in their victory, with great plays coming from quarterback Kyle Wisnieski passing to Brendan Hill and Michael Hershman. Mansfield’s running game relied heavily on Kevin Mackie, as Robert Rapoza, their leading runner, was injured during an interception play. Mackie, however, picked up the slack and kept Mansfield’s game solid. Mansfield took the lead early with a solid drive, starting with a 20 yard pass to Hill, a run from Mackie and a touchdown run from Rapoza. The Hornets made the conversion to start 8-0. Alexander Rudy struck again in the first quarter for Mansfield with a run up the center after an interception. This …

Mansfield varsity football head coach Michael Redding got his 200th win on Friday when Mansfield took Canton in the second half to win at 34-14. “It’s been a privilage to be a part of it,” he said. “It just reflects support from the community, great players and a lot of unknown guys who work for three years to play their senior year and they become good football players through that dedication.” Redding, who starting coaching Mansfield after coaching college football in 1988, now has 200 wins in his career for over 24 seasons. “First year in 88,’ I thought it was a one-year deal,” he said. “I enjoyed it, and every year it’s gotten better.
