Mansfield Students Receiving College Accolades

A look at students from Mansfield making a splash at their colleges.

Christopher Herbert, a junior political science major and legal studies minor, is the recipient of this year's Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship. Herbert, who is a member of the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team, received a pleasant surprise when he checked his email and found out he had been awarded a scholarship to help with tuition. The scholarship is bestowed upon an upperclassman student-athlete majoring in political science and international relations or sociology and criminal justice with plans to pursue a law degree. "It has definitely helped a lot," said Herbert about the Ricky Barbour Scholarship. "With school and lacrosse, I don't have extra time for a job and the scholarship eases my mind and lets me focus on more …

Mansfield Students Making the Dean's List and Honor Roll

The following is a listing of Mansfield students making the dean's list and honor roll in the spring 2012 semester.

 Faye S. Harwell of Mansfield, MA, has been named to second honors on the Clark University Dean's List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the Spring 2012 semester. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.79, of a maximum of 4.3. Daniel Oser, a resident of Mansfield, Mass., has enrolled at Saint Joseph's College of Maine beginning in the fall semester. Oser, a student from Mansfield High School, will major in Nursing. Saint Joseph's College of Maine is a Catholic liberal arts college located on Sebago Lake in Standish, Maine. The college serves an undergraduate enrollment of 1,000 students and offers 40 academic programs on campus. Saint Joseph's also offers an …

Anthony Sabatino '15 of Mansfield, MA, is a member of Eastern Connecticut State University's TV 22 Club. Sabatino is majoring in Communication. The purpose of the TV 22 Club is to give students a chance to enhance their future careers by providing knowledge in the field of television. More than 30 percent of the full-time students enrolled at Eastern now participate in at least one club/organization, an increase of almost 10 percent since fall 2008. Students who participate in clubs/organizations excel in the classroom and do better academically than students who do not participate. In spring 2011, 1,345 full-time students participating in clubs had an average GPA of 3.06, much higher than the 2.84 average for those students not taking …
