The Rotary Club of Mansfield and major sponsor, Pediatric Dental Care of Mansfield, are once again helping put smiles on the faces of hundreds of needy kids this holiday season. Nov. 13 marks the kick-off of the 20th Annual Toys for Tots Drive to collect and deliver thousands of toys to our area’s disadvantaged children. The campaign is part of a national effort sponsored by the United States Marine Corps. More than 70 local businesses and groups participate in the drive by hosting colorfully decorated boxes that are used as receptacles for collecting donated toys. Thanks to these businesses and the support of their employees and customers, the Rotary Club has been able to collect over 69,600 toys since 1993 to make the holidays happy for…

After 14 years as Mansfield's town clerk, Christian is retiring and handing the reigns off to a new person.
Mansfield’s Town Clerk Helen Christian announced this year that she is retiring. Amid the news, she said says she looks back fondly at her time in Mansfield, and wouldn’t have had it any other way. “It’s been a privilege to serve as the town clerk in Mansfield,” she said. “I love the job, I’ve lived here for 40 years, [my family’s] roots are here and I plan to stay here for the rest of my life. Christian has been at her position for over 14 years, but that was never a part of her plan. Christian started as an office clerk in the Mansfield Town Hall to help pay for her sons’ college tuition. Emergency services for the powder scare at Mansfield's Robinson School not a big hit in the budget.
Mansfield town manager William Ross said that the powder scare at Robinson Elementary School last month wouldn’t cost the town much in terms of additional fiscal responsibility. Ross said that since all Mansfield emergency personnel on site for the incident were on duty at the time, no additional funds were needed to cover. “Everybody we had was already on duty. We did bring in the Hazmat team but they don’t charge for their service because we’re a member and we all work together on that. “ Mansfield wasn't the only town to get such a mysterious substance. Join the Mansfield Park & Recreation Department this spring and summer for a variety of recreation programs. Registration begins Monday, March 26 at the recreation office, Six Park Row, Mansfield. They invite residents and non-residents to sign up. For youth and adults we offer tennis lessons spring and summer for ages 5 through adult. For adults we offer pick up basketball, tennis leagues, pick up softball, women’s pickup tennis, women’s soccer over 30. Kids don’t forget, registration continues for our fantastic summer camp, ages 5 through 12 from July 2 through Aug. 24; a pre-school summer session in May and June and the Youth Fishing Derby May 12.
