The Mansfield wrestling team recently held their annual banquet at the Chateau in Norton.
Thursday night, the Hornet wrestling team held their annual banquet at the Chateau in Norton. Several awards were handed out by coach Eric Farley and his staff. Rookie of the year was awarded to Shane Walsh. The Iron Man Effort award was handed out to Victor Borborema, most improved to Sam Caskey and the Coaches award to Connor Burns. Captain Sam McLoughlin received the Outstanding Wrestler award and Captain Joe Herrick was named team MVP. Both Herrick and McLoughlin were recognized for being named to the Hockomock League and Sun Chronicle All Star teams. Max Trowbridge and Jake McCaffrey were announced as captain elects for the 2013-2014 season.

A pair of Mansfield wrestles finished their season over the weekend at the MIAA All-State Wrestling Tournament.

Last weekend, Mansfield wrestlers Sam McLoughlin (132) and Joe Herrick (145) finished their season at the All-State Tournament in Salem. McLoughlin lost his first two matches on the first day of the tournament and was eliminated from the tournament. He finishes his season with 31 wins and sixth in Division 1 at the 132 pound weight class. Herrick lost his first match and then made some noise with two upset victories. First he avenged a Division 1 tournament loss to Framingham's Anthony Nguye by earning a pin at 1:49. In his next match he pinned the Division 1 third place finisher Adrian Berg of Lincoln Sudbury at 1:37. On day two he dropped two matches to place eight in the state, one win away from qualifying for the New England Tournament…

Two Mansfield wrestlers have qualify for the All State Tournament after placing at the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament. Senior Captains Joe Herrick and Sam McLoughlin represented the Hornets in the tournament on February 20 and 21 at Newton South High School. McLoughlin (132), was 3-3 and Herrick (145), was 3-3 with one pin, both good for 6th place in the 32 team field. The top six wrestlers in each weight class from each Division (1,2 and 3) will move on to the All State Tournament at Salem High School on February 23. The accomplishment elevates both wrestlers into the highest level of competition in the state. Mansfield competed in the Division 1 South Sectional Tournament on Saturday at Braintree High School. The Hornets two Senior captains punched their tickets to the Division 1 State Tournament being held at Newton South High School on Tuesday, February 19. Joe Herrick (145) and Sam McLoughlin(132) both went 3-1 in the highly competitive field. Each wrestler suffered their only loss to the eventual champion of their weight class. Both wrestlers finished with a flare in their final match to capture third place in their respective weight classes. McLoughlin was deadlocked 2-2 with less than a minute left in the match when he shot in with a single leg takedown to record a 4-2 victory. Mansfield lost 27-22 to Foxboro Wednesday night at home. The Hornets were celebrating senior night and George Bezreh, Sam Borden, Connor Burns, Joe Herrick, Tyler McKay, Sam McLoughlin, Joe Pucino and Shane Walsh were all honored accordingly before the match. Mansfield was leading 22-15 until they were forced to forfeit their last two matches resulting in the loss. Senior captains Joe Herrick (dec. 6-1) and Sam McLoughlin (dec. 4-2) along with fellow seniors Tyler McKay (dec. 10-2) and Shane Walsh (pin 3:30) all won their matches. Mansfield competed in the Hockomock League Tournament on Sunday. Mansfield was represented in 10 of the 14 weight classes. Missing four weight classes made it very difficult for the team to place high in the tournament format. The Hornets finished 7th as a result but fought hard all day and had eight wrestlers place in the top six. Senior captain Sam McLoughlin (132) led the way making it to the finals and placing 2nd, going 2-1 with 2 pins. Mansfield wrestling wins big.
Mansfield defeated KP 43-33 Thursday night at Mansfield High School. Mansfield enjoyed a big night from it's seniors in pulling off the win in a close see saw battle. George Bezreh (126), Joe Herrick (138), Sam Borden (145), and Tyler McKay (195) all recorded 1st period pins for the Hornets. Sam McLoughlin had a hard fought 4-1 victory also. Juniors Jake McCaffrey (160), by 1st period pin, and Paul Bezreh (120), by major decision also won for Mansfield. The Hornets improved their record to 9-6 and next wrestle Saturday at Lawrence High School.

The Mansfield High wrestling team went 3-2 at their super quad match Saturday in Brockton. Mansfield defeated Danvers, 33-15, Brockton, 46-22, and Leominster, 42-27. They lost to Methuen, 50-19 and St. John's of Shrewsbury, 46-31. Senior captain Joe Herrick led the way for the hornets going 5-0 with foir pins. Max Trowbridge, (4-1, four pins) and Paul Bezreh (4-1, a pin), also had big days for Mansfield. Senior captain Sam McLoughlan, Jake McCaffrey, Shane Walsh and Sam Caskey each recorded three wins for the team. Mansfield improved their season record to 8-6 and next wrestle at the Marshfield Holiday Tournament Dec. 27 and28.

The Mansfield High wrestling team defeated Canton, 39-33, Thursday night, in Hockomock league action. It was a back and forth battle all night that saw Mansfield rally late to take the exciting match. Mansfield had five impressive first period pins courtesy of Pee Wee Dawkins (126) Jake McCaffrey (160) Max Trowbridge (170) Tyler McKay (195) and Sam Caskey (220). McKay gained his first career victory setting up Caskey to finish things off for the hornets. Mansfield's record is 5-4 and they next wrestle Saturday in a quad vs. Brockton, Methuen and St. John's Shrewsbury, in Brockton.
