Five Bears earned All-New England honors as the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team placed 21st (11 points) at the New England Division 3 Championships held at Colby College. Michael McPherson of Mansfield paced the Bears with a fourth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 52 feet, 4.25 inches (15.95m). The other All-New England performers were Matt Horan, sixth 110-meter hurdles, Josh Goehring, 800 meters, eighth, Andy Sukeforth, eighth, 1,500 meter run and Christian Lavioe, discus, eighth. The BSU track team will be competing in the NEICAAA Championships at Stonehill College Saturday.

For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Michael McPherson has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. McPherson led the Bears to a fourth place showing at the Tufts Stampede td as he won the shot put event and finished third in the weight throw. The Mansfield, native posted a distance of 54 feet, 5.50 inches (16.60 meters) in the shot put and 50 feet, 9.25 inches (15.47 meters) in the weight throw. McPherson broke his own school record in the shot put earlier this season at the UMass Boston Invitational and again the following week at the Harvard Open.
