Mansfield High head coach Michael Redding was named Patriots Coach of the Week.
New New England Patriots Hall of Famer and Executive Director of Community Affairs, Andre Tippett will be honoring Mansfield High School varsity football head coach Michael Redding. Redding, because of his recent accomplishment of 200 wins for the Hornets, will be named this week’s 2012 Patriots High School Coach of the Week. Tippett will be visiting Redding and his team today at the MHS auditorium. At the end of the season, one high school coach will be named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year and will receive an additional $2,000 contribution toward that school’s football program. Mansfield's head coach Michael Redding celebrates his 200th win on Friday.
Mansfield varsity football head coach Michael Redding got his 200th win on Friday when Mansfield took Canton in the second half to win at 34-14. “It’s been a privilage to be a part of it,” he said. “It just reflects support from the community, great players and a lot of unknown guys who work for three years to play their senior year and they become good football players through that dedication.” Redding, who starting coaching Mansfield after coaching college football in 1988, now has 200 wins in his career for over 24 seasons. “First year in 88,’ I thought it was a one-year deal,” he said. “I enjoyed it, and every year it’s gotten better. Persistence, perfection and perseverance only way to describe Nancy Kitchen, colleagues say.
Nancy Kitchen first started working in the Mansfield school system over two decades ago and left a lasting impression. The longtime fixture on the Mansfield High athletic scene died Wednesday, Nov. 23, after a battle with cancer. Services were held Monday at St. Mary's Church in Mansfield. Kitchen retired in August of 2011 as the administrative assistant to the athletic director at Mansfield High School. For those years, she poured herself into the organization, never stopping until the work was done. "Her passing is a huge loss of a friend, but also a huge loss for Mansfield," said her former boss at Mansfield High, Margaret Conaty, who is now the athletic director at Hingham High.
