Hornet Boys Beat Sharon Eagles

Hornets register seventh straight win on Friday.

The size, talent and athleticism of the Mansfield High boys’ basketball team was too much for Sharon to overcome on Friday night as the Hornets handed the Eagles a 62-34 setback in a Hockomock League contest, January 28 at the James Albertini Memorial Gymnasium. In front of both a packed house on Mansfield Youth Basketball Association Night and the bright lights of Fox 25’s High School Friday, the Hornets recorded their seventh consecutive victory in impressive fashion, improving to 11-2 overall and 8-0 in the league. It has been an interesting week for Sharon. After the Eagles’ game a week ago in North Attleboro was pushed back one day because of snow, Sharon went into Kenneth Pickering Gymnasium last Saturday and grabbed a 56-50 win …

Michael Lofton's momentum changing dunk secures game against Oliver Ames.

Sometimes during a course of a basketball game, one play can entirely dictate the momentum going forward. Friday night at the Nixon Gymnasium, that one play came from Mansfield boys' basketball forward and senior co-captain Michael Lofton. With the game still relatively close in the first half, Lofton drove to the lane and forcefully dunked the ball – for 2 of his 17 points – and completed the three-point play after his free throw to put Mansfield ahead at the time, 28-20. Lofton’s play gave the Hornets a big energy boost for the remainder of the contest as Mansfield sailed to a 69-38 victory. “I think anytime you get a big time play from a big time player you put yourself in position to go on a little bit of a run,” said Mansfield head …

Mansfield Boys Basketball Set To Battle New Bedford

Addition of Tavares makes Whalers difficult team to deal with.

After winning a pair of hard-fought games in the Hockomock League Large School Division to open the season, the Mansfield High boys' basketball team will begin a difficult week by traveling to Chelsea to face a talented New Bedford team  tonight in the opening round of the Super Stop and Shop Holiday Classic. Mansfield opened the season with a 57-50 victory in North Attleboro. The Hornets followed that up with a 66-62 victory over King Philip Dec. 26 at the James Albertini Gymnasium. The two wins allowed Mansfield to begin the campaign at 2-0 overall, but more importantly the team won its first two games in what will be a difficult Large School Division, featuring the likes of Attleboro, North Attleboro, Franklin and King Philip. Hornet …
