Robinson Kate Kristenson announces that she's retiring.
Mansfield School superintendent Brenda Hodges and the entire School Committee said a heartfelt goodbye to retiring Robinson principal Kate Kristenson. “It has been a privilege to work with professionals at both schools,” she said. “I would to send a special thank you to the parents for your support and trust.” Kristenson has been working for the Mansfield school system for more than 35 years. She started her career in 1976 in a variety of different roles. Emergency services for the powder scare at Mansfield's Robinson School not a big hit in the budget.
Mansfield town manager William Ross said that the powder scare at Robinson Elementary School last month wouldn’t cost the town much in terms of additional fiscal responsibility. Ross said that since all Mansfield emergency personnel on site for the incident were on duty at the time, no additional funds were needed to cover. “Everybody we had was already on duty. We did bring in the Hazmat team but they don’t charge for their service because we’re a member and we all work together on that. “ Mansfield wasn't the only town to get such a mysterious substance. Mansfield's Robinson School construction to move ahead slowly but surely.
The Mansfield Board of Selectmen heard from the Mansfield Housing Corporation’s Pro-Term Chair Maureen Doherty on Wednesday concerning the current project to replace the windows on the Robinson School. The main issue up for debate concerned the need of a professional designer for the project, which Doherty said was essential for the project, both legally and for financial reasons. “We need design professionals on the project because it is a controlled construction project,” she said. “It’s a building over 35,000 yard, it’s required by state building code.” Doherty added that, because this is a large-scale project, the designer is especially essential for the replacement. In its first grant year, Mansfield Education Foundation gives out grants in what will hopefully become a yearly event.
The Mansfield Education Foundation gave away $10,000 in grants on Wednesday to recognize and aide teachers who need extra funding to enhance their programs. "We certainly want to thank the Mansfield Education Foundation for providing grants a number of our staff," said superintendent Brenda Hodges. Mansfield Education Foundation president Marybeth Cragen and director Linda Fernando presented the grants to seven Mansfield educators for their various programs. "MEF's been around for a little over a year," Fernando said. "Our goal is to enhance and encourage innovation and excellence in education." This year marks the first grant cycle. Engineers called in to examine roof.
Students from the Robinson Elementary School are being bused to three separate locations following the detection of a roof leak in the school earlier today. An e-mail from School Superintendent Brenda Hodges to parents at the school states: "Due to a roof leak at the Robinson Elementary School, the fire department has requested that Robinson students be moved to the following locations to allow for a thorough inspection for building safety: Kindergarten students to the Jordan/Jackson School Grade 1 students to the Qualters Middle School Grade 2 students to Mansfield High School The fire department does not see any apparent problems, but is taking this action as a precaution for student safety.
