Mansfield And Sharon Gymnasts Shine At Hockomock League Meet

Hornets and Eagles garner top honors at league meet on Feb 5.

The Mansfield and Sharon High School girls’ gymnastics teams put forth several outstanding performances during the Hockomock League Championship Meet on Saturday night at Arnold’s Gymnastics Academy in Mansfield. Sharon sophomore Samantha Kaplan captured the all-around competion with a total score of 37.65. Mansfield freshman Alexa Anastos finished in second place in the all-around with a score of 37.35, while Hornet junior Ally Neenan was third at 36.85. Neenan won the all-around balance beam competition with a score of 9.4, while Anastos was third at 9.1. Anastos finished tied for first in the all-around floor exercise with a mark of 9.6 with Neenan finished in a tie for fourth at 9.3. Neenan placed second in the all-around bars with a …

Hornet Boys Beat Sharon Eagles

Hornets register seventh straight win on Friday.

The size, talent and athleticism of the Mansfield High boys’ basketball team was too much for Sharon to overcome on Friday night as the Hornets handed the Eagles a 62-34 setback in a Hockomock League contest, January 28 at the James Albertini Memorial Gymnasium. In front of both a packed house on Mansfield Youth Basketball Association Night and the bright lights of Fox 25’s High School Friday, the Hornets recorded their seventh consecutive victory in impressive fashion, improving to 11-2 overall and 8-0 in the league. It has been an interesting week for Sharon. After the Eagles’ game a week ago in North Attleboro was pushed back one day because of snow, Sharon went into Kenneth Pickering Gymnasium last Saturday and grabbed a 56-50 win …

Mansfield Girls Defeat Sharon

Team remains undefeated.

After three quarters, Friday night's Mansfield-Sharon varsity girls’ basketball game seemed headed to the final buzzer. But, trailing by three, the visiting Hornets opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, and defeated the Eagles, 49-41, in a Hockomock League matchup in Sharon. Mansfield remains undefeated, at 13-0. Sharon’s record stands at 4-8. "(Mansfield's) intensity picked up. I think they extended their defense a little bit. We didn't shoot particularly well tonight," Sharon head coach Kate Horsmann said, "They're a team that's undefeated. They've got a whole lot of confidence, and we're the team that wants to beat them, and then you get a little tight...” The whole game was tight. Mansfield led by four, 26-22, at halftime. Sharon …
