Mansfield's Doherty Helps Bates College to Title
Mansfield's Shawn Doherty is a top performer for the Bates College football team.
Former Mansfield High standout Andrew Doherty helped the Bates College football team to their first Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) championship since 2002 with a 14-6 win over Bowdoin in Brunswick, ME. last Saturday. Bates is also in first place for the first time since 1982. A junior, Doherty plays in the slot, rushing 35 times for 204-yards and two touchdowns and catching 13 passes for 127-yards with three touchdowns. His 30 points are second on the team. The former Hornet also returns kickoffs with 13 for 291 yards and a 22.4 average. With the win over Bowdoin, Bates improved to 4-3, the first time they will finish with a .500 or better record since 1999. Bates will end their season Saturday at home against Hamilton in a noon start.
