Nine Hockomock League players took part in the All Star game that saw the South beat the North, 15-12.
Taking part in a yearly tradition, nine players from the Hockomock League and Oliver Ames coach Jim Artz, who was the offensive coordinator, were named to the South All-Stars for the 2012 Shriners’ All-Star Football Classic Friday night. Raising money for charity, it was also a chance for some of the best players in the state to take part in one last game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. A close game to the end, the South All-Stars snuck past the North All-Stars, 15-12. The North team struck first midway though the second quarter when quarterback Jonathan DiBiaso found Kyle Shields for a three-yard touchdown pass to pull ahead of the South team 6-0. North All Stars win, 17-14, and take the trophy.
It’s been a Massachusetts tradition for 32 years. Every June, some of the best senior football players in the state get together for one last game of football. Known as the Shriners All Star Football game, the yearly contests raises money for the Shriners Hospital for Children. This year's contest at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough featured seven members of the Hockomock League playing for the South team. Mansfield's Kyle McGuire saw action on the offensive line. The game started not with a bang, but with a surprise. The South team caught just about everyone off guard with a pooch kick to start the game. Mansfield's Kyle McGuire will be playing on the offensive line for the South squad in Friday's night 33rd Shriners All Star Football Game at Gillette Stadium.
