Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: area big-box retailers are gearing up to dazzle bargain hunters on Black Friday! Not to be outdone, Target and Best Buy are also planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. According to an ad leaked online, Target's best deals will be for TVs, a Nook, a Nikon camera and an XBOX 360 Kinect bundle. At Best Buy, doorbusters include deals on TVs, phones and Samsung laptop bundles. Walmart will offer three items at low prices—an iPad, a TV and a Blu-ray player. According to TheBlackFriday.com, several other stores will also have doorbuster sales at midnight on Friday, including Kohl's. Owner Mark Deluzio shares his journey through his experience of music and the creation of his store(s)
Mark Deluzio first started his foray into the music store business back in 1995, when he opened up shop in the center of Milford. Ever since he moved his operation to Mansfield he has been expanding the store's horizons to feature everything from recording to performing. Deluzio first started in music with the drums when his was very young. His mother, Jean Deluzio, said that when he was about four years old they bought him a toy drum and he never stopped playing it. When he was older, about seven or eight, he began taking lessons from a local big band drummer by the name of Bob Varney. "So I called and talked to him," she said. The Hair Saloon takes over for Tony's Barber Shop on North Main Street.
Tony's Barber Shop was a mainstay in Mansfield for over half a century. Now, Susan McDonough has taken over and changed the name to The Hair Saloon and Barber Shop, and wants to continue the tradition. "It amazes me the people who loved and miss him" she said. "They have such great memories of him." McDonough has been a stylist for over a decade now and studied at the Rob Roy Academy in Taunton. She said that she has kept any usable items leftover from the original shop, in order to keep the tradition. "This place is really like a landmark," she said.
