Mansfield's Hopkins Moves Up in Milwaukee Brewers' Organization

Gregory Hopkins of Mansfield is starting the season with the Brevard County Manatees, who open up the season tonight.

Mansfield's Gregory Hopkins is moving up in the minor league ranks for the Milwaukee Brewers, playing for the Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League at the start of the season. Brevard County is the Brewers' advanced Class A team. Hopkins is in his fourth year in the organization after being drafted in the 24th round in the 2010 draft out of St. John's University. The right-handed hitting second baseman played with the Helena Brewers in rookie league baseball his first year and then spent the last two season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Class A.  Hopkins was a Midwest League all-star last year, batting .269 with nine homers and 21 doubles. Mansfield's Hopkins Hopes to Help Timber Rattlers Stay in Contention

Mansfield's Greg Hopkins and his Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are starting with a big three-game series against the Western Michigan White Caps tonight at home in a 7:05 p.m. start. The Timber Rattlers are the Single A club of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Midwest League, while the Western Michigan is a farm team of the Detroit Tigers. A second and third baseman, Hopkins is going into the game with a .248 average, going 67 for 270 with 38 runs scored and 38 RBI. The second-year pro has eight doubles, two triples and four homers. Hopkins also has 12 stolen bases and has only been caught twice. The Timber Rattlers are 8-10 in the second half of the season and 46-42 overall. Mansfield's Hopkins, Timber Rattlers Battling for First Place

Mansfield’s Gregory Hopkins went 0-3 Friday night as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost to the Kane County Cougars, 6-1, at home. The Timber Rattlers are now 8-6 in the second half of the season, trailing Kane, 9-5, by one game. Hopkins went into Friday's game, batting .255 on the season, going 66 for 259, while splitting time between second and third base. He also had eight doubles, two triples, three homers and 30 RBI. The right-handed hitter has also shown speed on the base paths with 12 stolen bases in 14 attempts. In 2010, the Bishop Feehan product was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers after a standout career at St. John’s University.

Mansfield's Hopkins Swinging Hot Bat for Timber Rattlers

Mansfield's Gregory Hopkins is swinging a hot bat for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the Midwest League. The Timber Rattlers are a Single A farm team of the Milwaukee Brewers. Hopkins, who usually plays third base, switched to second base this week and had a big night in the Timber Rattlers' 5-1 win over the Peoria Chiefs. The former Bishop Feehan and St. John's University standout went 3 for 4 with his third homer of the season, driving in four runs. The second year pro then went 1-3 in a 3-2 win over Cedar Rapids June 30. On the year, Hopkins was hitting .255 with three homers, 28 RBI, seven doubles and two triples going into Friday night's action. He has been battling in the clean-up spot for the Timber Rattlers.

Mansfield's Hopkins, Timber Rattlers fall to Kane County

Mansfield's Greg Hopkins had a ninth inning single and a sacrifice bunt earlier in the game, but the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers loast to the Kane County Cougars Sunday, 5-4, in 11 innings in Class A Midwest League action. The third baseman was batting .208 in 42 games, going 30 for 114 with a two doubles, a triple and five stolen bases in his second year of professional baseball in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization. Hopkins, who played at Bishop Feehan, was signed out of St. John's University. The Timber Rattlers were 27-25 going into Wednesday's action after losing to Bowling Green Hot Rods Tuesday night.

Mansfield's Hopkins Mans Third for Brewers' Minor League Team

The Timber Rattlers ready to face Cedar Rapids Wednesday.

In 22 games, Mansfield's Gregory Hopkins is batting .260 for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, a Class A team of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Midwest League. The second-year pro is playing third base and went 19 for 73 for the Timber Rattlers, who are taking a 14-15 record into their game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Wisconsin is in fifth place in the East Division. Hopkins, who was a standout in Mansfield Youth Baseball and then at Bishop Feehan High, was drafted out of St. John's University after his junior season. The right-hand hitter has a .613 on base percentage.
