The transportation service is looking at adding a stop at Mansfield Crossing.
Administrator at GATRA Francis Gay told Norton board of selectmen of current plans to expand service in Mansfield and Norton. According to Gay, GATRA has been working with the town of Mansfield and Wheaton College to expand service along Route 140 between the two areas. “We’re looking to expand that service to Mansfield Crossing,” Gay said. “We’re working with the town and the college. There’s a big need for student who want to get over there and a local need for student that live in Norton that might want to work at the shopping center.” He told the board that the schedule would be presented when it’s finalized, and is looking to implement it late in the summer to be ready for the fall season and the return of the student body. Representatives Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield), Elizabeth A. Poirier (R-North Attleboro) and Steven S. Howitt (R- Seekonk) were happy to host several Chinese exchange students last week at the State House that are visiting Wheaton College for the summer. Wheaton College is partnering with Norton High School students to show the Chinese students what life is like in the United States, and specifically in the Commonwealth. The students came to the State House for lunch and a tour then spent the remainder of the day touring the city of Boston. Representative Donald Wong (R-Saugus) made a special appearance to talk to the students as he is one of two Asian Representatives elected in 2010 for the first time in Massachusetts history.

Easton Resident Arrested for Home Invasion in Norton Norton Police arrested a South Easton resident for breaking into a Norton home on North Washington St. the afternoon of May 22. The homeowner told Norton police that a blue Land Rover was parked in his driveway with a male operator inside. The operator stated he was looking for someone and drove off when the homeowner informed him he had the wrong address. As the homeowner then walked up to the front door, he could hear noises inside the residence. As police arrived, a male subject, Louis Breton, age 49, of South Easton, was exiting the residence and was placed under arrest. Thousands Lose Power in Stoughton Almost 11,000 National Grid customers in Stoughton (90 percent of customers) lost power last Saturday afternoon, March 31, as a result of a breaker that opened at a National Grid substation on Sumner St. in Stoughton, according a spokesperson for National Grid. The Sumner St. substation also serves a small amount of customers in North Easton, where there were also reports of outages. Power was restored within a few hours. Hornets suffer first loss of season January 10 at Wheaton College.
Depth spelled the difference during the battle for first place in the Hockomock League between the undefeated girls’ swim teams from Mansfield and North Attleboro High. Unfortunately, the depth of the Rocketeers was too much for the Hornets to overcome as North Attleboro registered a 92-76 verdict on Tuesday night at the Balfour Natatorium on the campus of Wheaton College in Norton. “I think the girls swam very well,” said Mansfield coach Danielle Matook. “The score did not reflect that. North Attleboro is a very strong team and they have a lot of depth.” With the win, the Rocketeers are in first place in the league with a 5-0 overall record and a 4-0 mark in the league.
